The CIS Executive Committee hosted the official cancellation ceremony of an artistic envelope with an original stamp dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev noted the importance of the commemorative issue. According to him, the stamp will be distributed not only in Belarus, but also abroad, recalling the 35-year history of the creation and development of the Commonwealth. "It was a controversial, but also a positive time. Over the years, cooperation has strengthened, many contracts and agreements have been signed, and now this work continues," Sergei Lebedev said. He stressed that there is a wide range of events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the CIS. One of the key events will be the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth, which will be held on December 10-11, 2026 in Moscow.
"35 years of the CIS is a very significant date. During this time, the Commonwealth has emerged as a universal regional interstate organization that helps resolve complex problems and build an equal political dialogue, build new mechanisms for trade and economic cooperation, humanitarian partnership and security," said Kirill Zalessky, Minister of Communications and Informatization of Belarus.
He stressed that postage stamps are a kind of chronicle of the state and allow preserving the memory of important historical events and international dates. According to him, Belarus has been celebrating the anniversaries of the CIS with postal projects since 2001. One copy of the postal issue will be donated to the Commonwealth Museum.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the CIS countries and the leadership of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.
